Corona Virus

Covid-19 ist eine globale Pandemie, die uns nicht nur hier in Österreich und Europa schwer zu schaffen macht, sondern mittlerweile auch bis nach Indien vorgedrungen ist.

Während wir in Österreich schon den ersten Lockerungen der Restriktionen entgegen sehen, ist die Situation in Indien angespannt. Nicht nur die Größe und Bevölkerungsdichte Indiens, auch das schlechte Gesundheitssystem und die weit verbreitete Armut erschweren den Kampf gegen den Virus stark.

Fr. Jacob hat uns einen Brief geschrieben, der einen besorgniserregenden Einblick in die Situation vor Ort gibt. Nachfolgend ein kurzer Auszug:
All are staying at home and so the roads and streets are deserted and the whole area even villages look empty. Poor people are already facing a hard time with no money and necessary food etc and in the coming days no one knows how things will go on.
As to Samhathi’s arrangements in this situation, we had already arranged through the COs and the Field Officers to make available money and food stuff in each area especially for the MIF families. They did whatever was possible and are still open to undertake any such relief works while remaining within the limits of government restrictions (it is not allowed to move out of one’s home except for serious reasons). We also have stocked some food stuff, medicines etc but distribution is not easy as people are very careful to avoid contacts with others as it is in this stage of this disease one has to be very careful of volunteers from various villages to the District Collector as per their request and we will be ready to swing into action if they called for help.
